Welcome

I am happy to announce that we have received the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years’ Program (Grades 6 to 10) authorization as of June 8, 2010. We received the IB Primary Years’ Program (Early Years to Grade 5) authorization in May 2006, and the Diploma Program (Grades 11 and 12) in November 2009. This means that we are a full IB World School who are now authorized in all three of the IB programs, making us only one of six schools of all 40 international schools in Switzerland to do so.

We will open Grade 11 in August 2010 and Grade 12 in August 2011.

Dear Parents,

The International School Winterthur (ISW), a non-profit organization, opened its doors in 2002 to serve the growing international community in the greater Zurich and Winterthur areas. Since then, the school has continued to grow in many ways.

The International School Winterthur is an independent day school for children between the ages of 3 (Early Years 1) and 17 (Grade 11). Since the opening of our school in 2002, our college preparatory curricular programs have centered on the philosophy and practices of the International Baccalaureate (IB), and we are recognized as an IB World School with the successful IB authorizations of all three IB programs: the Primary Years’ Program (kindergarten through grade 5), the Middle Years’ Program (grades 6 through 10), and the Diploma Program (grades 11 and 12). The IB diploma is considered to be a passport to higher education. Universities around the world welcome the unique characteristics of Diploma Program and recognize the way in which the program helps to prepare students for university-level education. IB students routinely gain admission to some of the best-known universities in the world.

ISW is a school where teachers, students, and parents work collaboratively to create an uplifting spirit. We are a school that fosters the natural inquisitiveness and joy in learning that children bring to school. ISW offers a friendly, caring atmosphere within which the cultural diversity, individual talents, and interests of each student in the school are recognized, valued, and celebrated.

We welcome your inquiries and would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you and your family, so please don’t hesitate to contact us and arrange for an appointment.
